ForkLift 4.5 adds new metadata columns, editable comments, and several bug fixes for macOS
ForkLift 4.5 delivers several enhancements for macOS users managing files and media with this advanced dual pane file manager. This release introduces always-available metadata columns in the list view. Users can now add and sort by duration, rating, album, and genre, greatly improving organization for audio and video collections. The highly requested Duration column is especially helpful when working with media files.
Building on these improvements, ForkLift 4.5 includes a new Comments column. Comments can now be edited directly in the right-side preview pane or via the separate info window, making it easier to document and organize files without leaving the app. Alongside metadata and commenting updates, the Quick Open pop-up now reveals the complete command hierarchy, making tool navigation more intuitive for complex workflows.
Addressing previous usability issues, this version resolves multiple view-specific and macOS Tahoe-related bugs. Unwanted scrolling, icon view multi-selection, and a bug in column view causing right-clicks to send users back to the root folder have all been fixed. The update also corrects a file renaming issue: hidden extensions now stay hidden after renaming, restoring expected behavior for hidden files management.

Comments
ForkLift is a perfectly usable file manager for MacOS. There are only two things that bother me about it:
The display of a folder's size is not reliably updated after a file operation. For example, if all files are deleted from a folder or moved to another location, it takes forever for the correct new size of the folder to be displayed. You often have to refresh manually, which is not acceptable behavior for a file manager.
Virtually every other file manager allows you to switch to the parent directory by clicking on .. Only ForkLift cannot do this. This is annoying and wastes unnecessary time when navigating.
Perhaps these weaknesses will be fixed in a future version. I would be delighted if they were.
