Files 4.0.28 adds improved context menus, Dropbox MS Store version support, and more
Files 4.0.28 is available for Windows users, delivering a range of interface and usability improvements to this open-source file explorer. The Properties action is now a primary option in both the sidebar and home page context menus, creating a unified experience throughout the interface. Cloud drive detection has been expanded to include the Microsoft Store version of Dropbox, addressing a previous limitation for users of that distribution.
Following these interface changes, Files now allows users to customize the icons associated with URL and shortcut file types through the Properties customization page. Additionally, users have the option to disable Pin to Start and Pin to Sidebar in context menus, as well as toggle smooth scrolling, further adapting the software to their workflow preferences. Several bugs have also been addressed in this update, targeting improved stability and quality.
Looking ahead, the Files team is actively developing performance enhancements focused on speeding up thumbnail loading. While these changes are not yet present in this stable version, early testing is expected to begin soon in the preview channel.
