Canva acquires Cavalry and Mango AI to expand 2D animation & AI-powered intelligence tools

Canva has announced the acquisition of Cavalry, a 2D animation software available for Mac and Windows, as well as Mango AI, a platform that showcases over 3,000 artificial intelligence websites across various domains. Cavalry will sit alongside Affinity in Canva’s suite, creating a professional stack that covers static design, vector illustration, layout, and now, motion graphics.

Following these acquisitions, creatives can craft assets in Affinity and Cavalry’s precise design environments, then move effortlessly into Canva to collaborate, adapt, and distribute content across teams, formats, and channels. Canva users are assured that all free features within Cavalry will remain available at no cost. The Cavalry team will continue guiding the application’s future, retaining the founders’ vision but with increased resources from Canva.

By acquiring Mango AI, Canva gains additional expertise in data intelligence and reinforcement learning. Mango AI’s technology was developed to generate, launch, and automatically optimize video ads based on real-world performance, easing the creative process for marketing teams. Building on this, combining Mango AI with MagicBrief strengthens Canva’s intelligence layer, forming a feedback loop that ties together creation, actionable insight, and campaign results for creative and marketing professionals.
