Astropad Workbench 1.4 adds terminal access, iPhone Duo support & Mac-to-Mac file transfer
Astropad has officially released version 1.4 of its Workbench remote desktop application, introducing two significant features aimed at enhancing productivity for users managing remote Mac systems. The update brings native terminal support, allowing users to establish command line sessions on their Mac from any device while keeping processes running even after disconnection, enabling developers and IT professionals to monitor background operations without maintaining a full desktop connection. Additionally, Workbench now runs natively on the newly launched iPhone Duo, letting users manage remote tasks in one pane of the dual-screen device without occupying the entire phone display.
Beyond these headline features, the update includes Mac-to-Mac file transfer capabilities, enabling users to drag and drop files between machines during terminal sessions. The company also addressed several reliability issues with automatic H264 codec fallback for Macs that cannot encode HEVC, alongside improvements to full-screen mode that now encompasses the entire display including the menu bar area. Workbench is positioned as a solution designed specifically for AI agents, headless Mac mini setups, and always-on computing scenarios. Those interested can update through their respective app stores or download the latest versions directly from Astropad's app downloads page, with a free trial of 20 minutes per day.
