WordPress Studio 1.7 enhances the CLI with local site management, authentification & more
WordPress has announced the release of version 1.7 of WordPress Studio, offering a major update to this free and open source solution for local WordPress development on both Mac and Windows. This update focuses on major improvements to the command line interface (CLI), bringing four key enhancements that streamline the development workflow.
With WordPress Studio 1.7, developers can now fully manage local sites from the terminal. The CLI allows users to create new sites, monitor their status, start or stop them, and handle cleanup directly from the command line. Building on this, dedicated |studio auth commands have been added, enabling the management of authentication-required features without leaving the terminal environment.
Following this, the updated CLI introduces powerful new tools for handling preview sites. These preview sites are temporary, shareable WordPress environments hosted remotely and can now be managed entirely via new command line options. In addition, WP-CLI is now integrated through a new studio wp command, removing the need for separate WP-CLI installation and configuration.
Notably, the improved CLI is designed to fit smoothly with AI-assisted development workflows using tools like Claude Code and Cursor. These agents can read project code and execute commands in local environments, supporting advanced automation. The update enhances WordPress Studio’s scriptability and automation potential for daily development tasks.
