WinDirStat 2.5 adds dark mode, NTFS MFT scanning, improved search, and new file actions
WinDirStat 2.5 delivers several headline features, starting with the addition of a dark mode for improved visual experience. Following these interface enhancements, direct scanning of the NTFS (New Technology File System) Master File Table and hardlink tracking offers advanced users deeper analysis capabilities.
Building on these core updates, users can now search scan results, use auto-search options from the extensions' menu, and move files within WinDirStat. The application also adds tools to compute and display file hashes and export lists of duplicate files to CSV format. Progress dialogs for long-running tasks and prompts when elevation is needed make workflows clearer.
For power users, this version brings previous folder tracking history, expanded command-line scanning options, and new keyboard shortcuts. Integration improvements now allow WinDirStat to launch the Programs and Features applet, optimize virtual hard disk files, and toggle the Explorer context menu directly from within the application.
Additional changes include a DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) analyze feature, DPI (dots per inch) awareness enhancements, and volume displays with binary prefixes. The update adds Swedish, Japanese, and Turkish language support, various translation improvements, and general performance optimizations alongside bug fixes. WinDirStat 2.5 also removes support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and ARM 32-Bit builds.
