Transmission 4.1 brings IPv6 support, boosts µTP performance & adds sequential downloads

Transmission 4.1 is now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, bringing several core networking and usability improvements. The new release improves Micro Transport Protocol (µTP) download performance, leading to faster and more reliable torrent transfers for many users. Added support for IPv6 and dual-stack UDP trackers expands network compatibility, while the client now also supports trackers that rely solely on the older BEP-7 protocol using &ipv4= and &ipv6= parameters.

Alongside these backend changes, Transmission introduces a JSON-RPC 2.0-compliant remote procedure call interface for more standardized remote control and automation. Optional sequential downloading allows prioritization of files within torrents, a feature requested by many advanced users. Menus and toolbars now use native icons across all platforms: SF Symbols on macOS, Segoe Fluent on Windows 11, Segoe MDL2 on Windows 10, and XDG standard icons elsewhere, providing a more integrated look and feel.

Addressing stability, the update fixes a bug from version 4.0.6 where Transmission could repeatedly announce to HTTP trackers. These updates are rounded out with multiple enhancements, platform-specific improvements for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and further bug fixes.
