Substack launches its TV app for Apple TV and Google TV for viewing long-form video posts

Substack has introduced its new TV app for both Apple TV and Google TV, allowing subscribers to watch video posts and livestreams from the publications and creators they follow. This development brings Substack’s long-form video content into the living room, giving subscribers an extended viewing experience on television devices.

At launch, both free and paid subscribers can log in to the app, with access determined by their current subscription level. The initial app release is focused on providing reliable, high-quality playback. It also features a For You row that highlights personalized video recommendations, along with the option to browse a dedicated page for each subscription and explore more videos from specific publications.

Following this rollout, creators who already post video content on Substack will see their videos automatically available to their subscribers on the TV app, requiring no additional setup. While paid content previews for free subscribers are not supported at launch, Substack has announced plans to introduce this functionality in a future update.

In the near term, users can also expect added support for audio posts and read-alouds, enhanced search and discovery tools, in-app subscription upgrades, and new ways to organize shows from individual publications.
