NVIDIA to launch native Linux & Fire TV apps for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service soon

NVIDIA is bringing native Linux support to its GeForce Now cloud gaming service, allowing users to stream games without relying on unofficial workarounds or modified third-party applications. This move answers one of the most frequent requests from the PC gaming community and directly targets Linux users who want a more integrated experience.

With the upcoming app, Linux PCs running Ubuntu 24.04 and newer will be able to stream supported PC titles from the cloud at up to 5K and 120 frames per second or 1080p at 360 frames per second. Rendering takes place entirely in the cloud, enabling features like ray tracing, NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling 4, and the broader GeForce Now library without the need for a local high-end graphics card. The app is designed to fit naturally into Linux desktop workflows, making these cloud-powered RTX features accessible to a wider audience. The Linux app is slated to enter beta release early this year.

While expanding desktop support, NVIDIA is also preparing a native GeForce Now app for Amazon Fire TV devices, launching soon in participating countries. Beyond platform updates, flight simulation fans will gain support for flight controls, and all members will benefit from new single sign-on integrations and more AAA games joining the cloud service.
