Google brings “Personal Intelligence” to Search's AI Mode with Gmail & Photos integration
Google has expanded its “Personal Intelligence” system to AI Mode in Google Search, enhancing personalized experiences by integrating data across Google apps. Beginning today, eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can opt in to securely connect their Gmail and Google Photos accounts with AI Mode. This integration enables the search tool to reference personal context and insights, offering responses that better match individual needs.
Building on these enhancements, Personal Intelligence now tailors recommendations to users’ unique preferences and routines, eliminating the need for repeated clarifications about likes or plans. For shopping, AI Mode factors in prior purchases and favorite retailers to refine suggestions.
Connecting Gmail or Google Photos to AI Mode is strictly opt-in and can be disabled at any time. Google specifies that Gemini 3 powers this experience, but does not train directly on content from users’ Gmail inboxes or Photos libraries. Instead, training uses limited data, such as specific AI Mode prompts and responses, to further improve the feature.
Currently, this Labs feature is rolling out to U.S.-based customers with personal Google accounts on eligible plans. Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts are excluded from this initial launch.
