JetBrains makes RubyMine free for non-commercial use, joining WebStorm and other IDEs

JetBrains has announced that RubyMine, its integrated development environment tailored for Ruby on Rails, is now available free of charge for non-commercial use. This update parallels previous moves in October 2024, when JetBrains made other IDEs — WebStorm, Rider, RustRover, and CLion — free to use for non-commercial purposes.

While this change introduces a new opportunity for students, hobbyists, and open-source contributors to access industry-grade tools, JetBrains' existing licensing remains in effect for commercial use. That means developing products or generating commercial profit from your activity with RubyMine will still require a paid license.

However, users with a non-commercial license should note that opting out of anonymous usage statistics is not permitted. JetBrains collects this information to help improve its developer tools across its product line.
