Final Cut Camera 2.0 launches with ProRes RAW, iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max genlock, and more
Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.0, expanding professional filmmaking tools for iPhone users. This update introduces ProRes RAW and genlock support for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, making them the first smartphones to capture ProRes RAW. This file format lets users record RAW sensor data, providing maximum flexibility for adjustments in post-production. Genlock allows precise synchronization with other recording devices using a reference signal. Genlock API access is also available to third parties, with initial support in the Blackmagic Design Camera ProDock.
While these features advance on-device recording, Apple is also preparing significant updates for editors. The forthcoming Final Cut Pro 11.2 and Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.3 will allow direct exposure, color temperature, tint, and demosaicing control for iPhone ProRes RAW media.
Alongside these major changes, the update adds manual adjustments for the center stage front camera on the latest iPhones and integrates live multicam features for Final Cut Pro for iPad users. Open gate recording has also been enabled, capturing a wider field of view at resolutions above DCI 4K, giving editors improved options for reframing and stabilization during editing. Other new features and enhancements round out the release.
