postmarketOS adds Fairphone 6, iPhone X, major Apple and VR support
The Linux system for mobile devices postmarketOS expanded in July 2025 with ports to seven new devices and three generic device families. The Fairphone 6 is now supported, though Wi-Fi, cellular, camera, and other core functions are not yet working. The iPhone X can also boot postmarketOS, becoming the most modern iPhone (2017) supported so far, with functionality still limited and based on work from Hoolock Linux and Asahi Linux.
The release introduced support for the Lynx R1, the first VR headset on postmarketOS, and added the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 with mainline Linux compatibility from day one. The generic Apple iDevice port now covers all Apple devices except those with the Tonga (M1) chip, reducing maintenance needs.
Generic family ports now include Qualcomm development boards through the RBx package and extend Amlogic support to the P281 reference board. Work continues on an immutable, read-only variant of postmarketOS to improve system stability, and a planned directory merge will move /bin, /sbin, and /lib into /usr for all edge users on August 27, 2025, to simplify management and reduce debugging issues.
