Meta to license Midjourney's AI image tech for next-gen generative models
Meta AI has entered into a partnership with AI generation company Midjourney to license its aesthetic technology for use in upcoming AI models and products. The move aims to strengthen Meta’s generative AI capabilities and compete with tools like OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo..
While Meta has already launched its own AI image and video generation tools, this collaboration will allow the company to tap into Midjourney’s technical advances. Midjourney recently introduced its V7 model, which features improved text prompt comprehension and enhanced image generation, as well as its V1 video model, which lets users animate generated images into short videos.
According to Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, the partnership is part of an "all-of-the-above approach" that combines talent, computational resources, and collaborations with industry leaders, aligning with Meta’s broader goal of building a Superintelligence laboratory, while Midjourney CEO David Holz noted that the lab will remain independent and community-backed, with the deal set to complement Meta’s existing image and video generation tools.
