Discord Social SDK launches to all devs with in-game voice, chat, and cross-platform play

Discord Social SDK, first introduced in March, is now available to all developers after exiting closed beta, enabling in-game integration of Discord voice and text chat to enhance multiplayer communication and player retention. Players without a Discord account can still join games and interact, while linked accounts unify Discord and in-game friend lists. Rich Presence lets users display their gaming status and allows one-click joins, while game invites can be sent from both in-game and Discord for faster lobby access.

Cross-platform chat connects players across desktop, mobile, and console, with linked account messages appearing in Discord. Integrated voice chat brings Discord’s established audio quality to in-game matches, lobbies, and group conversations. Linked Channels also allow in-game text lobbies to sync with specific Discord text channels for seamless communication.

Recent updates add chat history for active lobbies, with DM history coming soon. Audio improvements include custom effects via fmod or Wwise, better mobile audio fidelity, and new diagnostic tools for echo and noise issues. Early partners such as Omeda Studios, Tencent Games, and Marvel Rivals have already implemented the SDK’s communication features, while Embark Studios, Dreamhaven, Halfbrick, and Digital Bandidos are working to integrate them into future titles.
