CachyOS' latest update brings package dashboard, LTS kernel by default, Niri WM, and more
CachyOS, an Arch-based Linux distribution known for its speed and customization, received a substantial update. As a core improvement, the new package dashboard now provides users with an integrated overview of all package versions within CachyOS, making system management more transparent.
Users will find the linux-cachyos-lts kernel installed out of the box as a fallback, which enhances system reliability. The update also shifts the installation ISO to the LTS kernel, minimizing graphics-related boot issues and improving first boot success rates. In addition, the online installer now offers Niri WM as a desktop option. CachyOS maintains a curated set of configuration files to ensure that users of this lightweight window manager have a smooth initial experience.
Following these changes, choosing the GRUB bootloader with Btrfs as the system filesystem now enables bootable snapshots by default, matching the feature set already available with Limine. NVIDIA users benefit from S0ix sleep support on compatible hardware, providing energy-saving low-power standby while maintaining the ability to receive notifications in the background. Other updates include the addition of Cachy-Update, a system tray utility for update notifications, new features in Proton-CachyOS, and multiple bug fixes for the Limine bootloader and installer.
