SmartThings update adds AI-driven routines and advanced scheduling for smarter automation

Samsung has launched an update to the SmartThings home automation platform, adding AI-driven natural language processing that lets users create routines by typing commands like “turn off the lights when I go out.” This removes the need to manually configure devices, simplifying setup for both new and experienced users. The feature is available on both Android and iOS SmartThings apps.

The new Delay Actions function allows routines to include actions at different times, for example, turning on lights, opening curtains later, and starting the coffee maker afterward. To avoid unwanted activations, the Confirm to Run Actions feature sends a notification prompt before running a routine, useful in homes with multiple people.

The SmartThings watchOS app now offers faster device control, supports location switching, and lets users manage individual devices from the watch. A dark mode has also been added. Additionally, SmartThings Find now supports URL sharing for Galaxy SmartTag locations, which can be accessed from any internet-connected device, including iPhones.
