Shotcut 25.07.26 adds model downloader, outline filter, and surround audio tools
Shotcut version 25.07.26 brings several practical updates for video and audio editing. The Speech to Text dialog now includes a Whisper.cpp (GGML) model downloader, with models downloaded as needed, reducing overall install size. The interface gets a System theme update for better alignment with Windows and macOS palettes, plus a new System Fusion theme combining OS colors with Fusion-style icons.
A new Outline filter uses alpha channels to outline text or transparent clips, while the Soft Focus filter set expands creative options. Users can now drag waveform peak lines to adjust audio gain and use Ctrl or Command for rolling trims across adjacent clips. Surround sound editing adds fader and balance controls, channel toggles across 15+ filters, and support for four-channel setups in the Copy Channel filter.
Other improvements include timeline trimming gestures, a switch to Average Bitrate as default for audio export in AAC, Opus, and MP3, slideshow duration settings, support for stacking Mask: Apply filters, and new French (Canadian) and Lithuanian translations.
