CoMaps' latest update adds Panoramax photos, better altitude contour lines, and more

CoMaps, the open source GPS navigation app and fork of Organic Maps, delivers several new features and enhancements in its most recent update. Users can now access Panoramax picture links directly from points of interest (POIs), enabling quick views of open source field photos in a fashion similar to Google Street View. This feature connects map navigation with real-world imagery, benefiting users who require up-to-date location visuals.

Following the Panoramax integration, the app has improved topographic details by updating altitude contour lines to 20 or 50 meter intervals in many regions. Outdoor enthusiasts and hikers will appreciate the increased map accuracy and clarity. Additionally, the revision of environmental information means wetlands are now split into multiple categories, providing users with a more nuanced understanding of different wetland areas.

Beyond mapping data, CoMaps now highlights the opening hours state when selecting a point of interest, helping users determine amenity availability more efficiently. As part of this update, the app also features a new logo, reflecting its growing identity within the open source maps community.
