Cryptomator 1.17 brings Windows Hello integration, double-click vault unlock, and more

File encryption software Cryptomator has released version 1.17.0 for desktop, introducing Windows Hello integration to allow users to unlock encrypted vaults on Windows with facial recognition, fingerprint, or PIN. This streamlines secure access and brings added convenience for users on compatible Windows devices.

Following this authentication update, users can now unlock vaults simply by double-clicking the vault.cryptomator file, eliminating the need to open the application first. The new release also upgrades Cryptomator’s graphical layer to JavaFX 24, improving the software’s stability and ensuring compatibility with current operating systems.

In addition to these upgrades, a critical bug that previously caused blue screens on systems using the WinFsp driver in combination with certain Trend Micro security products has been resolved. Users affected by this issue should experience improved reliability.

Finally, the update addresses a longstanding bug related to importing legacy vaults. Users restoring backups from earlier versions can now import these vaults smoothly with Cryptomator 1.17.0.
