WhatsApp's long-awaited iPad app could be coming soon

WhatsApp has given an indication that an official iPad app may launch soon. The messaging platform’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) reacted to calls for an iPad version with a conspicuous 👀 emoji, fueling speculation that Meta is close to releasing a dedicated WhatsApp app for Apple tablets.

While current users rely on iPhone and Mac apps, the new iPad version stands out because it is designed to work independently once devices are linked: there is no requirement for your iPhone to stay online to use WhatsApp on your iPad. This promises added flexibility for users who want to message from their tablet without syncing to a mobile device.

Beta testing of WhatsApp’s iPad app has quietly been underway for nearly two years through Apple’s TestFlight, suggesting the app has been in development for some time. Despite this, there is still no official statement or timetable for a public rollout. As of now, WhatsApp users are waiting for further announcements regarding the iPad app’s release date.

Our take: The app was officially released shortly after this article was published, and it can now be downloaded from the App Store at the following link.
