Trakt announces all VIP renewals will switch to a new standard rate, doubling prices

Trakt.tv has announced that, beginning May 20, 2025, all VIP renewals will move to a unified price point, bringing an end to any legacy, promotional, or grandfathered rates. This update means legacy plans, such as $15 and $30 per year, will rise to the current $60 annual price, even for long-time subscribers. Trakt's Co-founder previously assured users they could keep original pricing as long as they stayed active, but this approach has now been reversed, with all affected VIP members notified via email.

Following the pricing announcement, many users have expressed frustration that their costs are doubling without receiving any new features. Trakt justified the shift by citing goals of sustainability, development, and fairness, emphasizing the need to remain financially independent and to simplify pricing. However, community forums reflect widespread dissatisfaction, with many VIP members announcing immediate or future cancellations. The tone of the notification email also drew criticism, with several users calling it disrespectful in light of the abrupt change.

While company leadership positions this as a necessary step for the platform's longevity, some users questioned the value of Trakt's premium offerings, stating that they rarely used VIP features and found the new price unjustifiable. Trakt’s decision comes just months after announcing in February stricter limits for free users and a 100% price increase for new VIP subscriptions, which already sparked significant backlash among the community.
