Google Photos revamps editor with AI suggestions, device exclusives, and sharing upgrades

Google Photos marks its 10th anniversary with a redesigned photo editor featuring AI-powered suggestions that combine multiple effects for quicker edits. Users can tap on specific areas of an image for targeted adjustments, improving editing precision.

New tools like Reimagine and Auto Frame use generative AI to expand editing options, though they're currently limited to Pixel 9, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet devices. Reimagine adds elements based on text prompts, while Auto Frame crops or expands images, filling gaps with AI-generated content. Classic controls like brightness and contrast are still included. The update, including AI Enhance and contextual suggestions, rolls out globally to Android in June 2025, with iOS support coming later.

To support easier sharing, Google Photos now allows users to generate QR codes for albums and share custom montages. Photo organization and search also improve, with images now viewable on a geographic map, better natural language queries with face labels, and tools to remove backed-up items to free storage.
