Discord adds Orbs currency for earning badges and Nitro via sponsored Quests
Discord is introducing Orbs, a new virtual currency, in limited beta to a select group of users globally. Orbs are earned by completing Quests tied to sponsored advertiser content, such as watching promotional videos or engaging with game streams. This launches a new reward model, as previously brand-sponsored rewards were managed and distributed by advertisers directly.
Quests that award Orbs can be found in the Discover section under Quests. Earned Orbs are redeemable for digital rewards in the Discord Shop, including special badges and three-day Discord Nitro trial passes. One of the primary attractions for users is the opportunity to access Discord Nitro without cost by completing Quests and engaging with advertising.
While the beta program for Orbs is now underway, access is restricted to users on desktop platforms, both in the native app and web browser. Following in-app notification, eligible beta users will be able to participate and manage their rewards. Meanwhile, advertisers can still offer custom prizes, though Orbs introduce a standardized, Discord-managed alternative for rewards.
