Tor Browser 14.5 brings Connection Assist to Android, support for new languages, and more
The Tor Project has announced the release of Tor Browser version 14.5, enhancing its capabilities for anonymous web browsing and censorship circumvention. This update introduces Connection Assist to Android, allowing users in restricted regions to access Tor with a single button press. Previously available on Linux, macOS, and Windows since version 11.5, Connection Assist now extends its support to Android, benefiting from a more unified backend and streamlined codebase. This results in more stable and reliable connections across platforms.
The update also broadens language support, adding Belarusian, Bulgarian, and Portuguese (Portugal) to both desktop and Android versions. On the desktop, Tor logs have been redesigned for improved readability. Additionally, the update addresses various edge-cases in Connection Assist's logic and reduces the use of moat connections when diagnosing issues. Android users will also notice a more effective termination of background processes and task clearing when quitting the browser via the “Quit” menu.
