TikTok is shutting down Instagram competitor TikTok Notes, redirecting users to Lemon8

TikTok has announced the closure of its Instagram competitor, TikTok Notes, effective May 8. Initially launched in Canada, Australia, and Vietnam, TikTok Notes was designed as a photo-sharing platform to rival Instagram. The company is now directing users to Lemon8, another ByteDance-owned app with similar functionality.

Although TikTok has not specified the reasons for discontinuing TikTok Notes, it is likely due to low adoption rates. In a notice to users, TikTok acknowledged the decision “was not made lightly” and encouraged users to save their data and explore Lemon8 for continued creativity. Lemon8 is described as a lifestyle app offering a similar experience to TikTok Notes, with additional features.
