OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 “Rock” launches with Linux 6.14, KDE Plasma 6.3, and Server Edition
OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 “Rock” has been unveiled as the latest iteration of this independent Linux distribution, tracing its lineage directly back to Mandriva Linux. Users can select between the Linux 6.14.2 and 6.15.0-rc2 kernels for their setup. By default, this version features the KDE Plasma 6.3.4 desktop environment, with both X11 and Wayland available. Additional desktop environments include LXQt 2.2.0, GNOME 48.1, XFCE 4.20, and COSMIC 1.0 Alpha.
Under the hood, OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 incorporates KDE Applications 25.04.0, KDE Frameworks 6.13.0, and Qt 6.9.0. The release also updates several software packages: LibreOffice 25.2.3, Chromium 135.0.7049.84 with Google spyware disabled and JPEG-XL support, Firefox 137.0.2 with spyware disabled, Falkon 25.04.0, GIMP 3.0.2, and VirtualBox 7.1.8 are included.
Other key components such as LLVM/Clang 19.1.7, GCC 14.2.1, Glibc 2.41, Systemd 257.5, Mesa 25.0.4, and Java 24 are part of this release. Notably, the repositories now include proton and proton-experimental, enabling Proton use outside of Steam without installing non-free code. Updates to the welcome and configuration tools have also been made.
Additionally, OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 “Rock” introduces the first official stable release of the Server Edition, catering to those interested in deploying OpenMandriva for server use.
