OpenMandriva ROME 24.07 released with KDE Plasma 6.1, based on the Linux Kernel 6.10
OpenMandriva, an independent Linux distribution and direct descendant of Mandriva Linux, has released its ROME 24.07 version. This update is based on the Linux Kernel 6.10 and features KDE Plasma 6.1 as the default desktop environment, along with KDE Gear 24.05.2 and Frameworks 6.4. Additionally, spins featuring LXQt 2.0 and GNOME 46.3 are available.
The release includes a separate ROME Plasma 6 Wayland installation ISO, reflecting the belief that Wayland is not yet mature enough to replace X11 for most users. OpenMandriva now offers Proton and Proton Experimental packages, making these Wine variants available outside of Steam without requiring non-free code.
The update introduces a new startup and configuration tool, and updated software such as LibreOffice 24.2.5, Firefox 128.0, Chromium 126.0, and Falkon 24.05. It also includes support for AMD ROCm technology, an AI graphics generation plugin for Krita, and various security and privacy improvements.
Developer tools have been updated, including LLVM/Clang 18.1.8, GCC 14.1.0, Glibc 2.39, Systemd 255.7, and Mesa 24.1.4. OpenMandriva is also preparing builds for various aarch64 devices and working on a RISC-V port.
