Meta finally launches initiative to curb spammy content and fake engagement on Facebook
Meta has unveiled a new initiative aimed at reducing spammy content on Facebook. The company is targeting accounts that manipulate the platform's algorithm, often by using long, distracting captions with excessive hashtags or unrelated content, to artificially boost views and follower counts. Such accounts will have their content restricted to their followers and will lose monetization eligibility.
Spam networks, which create numerous accounts to disseminate identical content, will also face reduced reach and monetization restrictions. To combat coordinated fake engagement, Meta plans to limit the visibility of such comments and is testing a feature allowing users to flag irrelevant comments.
Enhancements to Facebook's Moderation Assist will enable automatic detection and hiding of comments from users potentially using fake identities. Additionally, creators will gain the ability to report impersonators within comments, further empowering them to maintain authentic interactions.
