ForkLift 4.3.1 adds better handling of text encoding issues, smarter workspaces, and more
BinaryNights has rolled out ForkLift 4.3.1, delivering improvements to handling text encoding issues over FTP and SFTP connections. Users can now manually select the text encoding for interpreting folder and file names on remote servers, usually defaulting to UTF8. Even when filenames are incorrectly encoded, ForkLift ensures seamless access by connecting to servers and opening folders regardless of encoding problems. Unreadable characters in filenames are now shown using the replacement character , making problematic entries clearly visible without breaking browser functionality.
This update also brings a suite of usability enhancements to workspaces. Users can open saved workspaces in new windows directly from the sidebar's right-click context menu, and reveal workspaces in the Favorite Manager from the same menu. In addition, ForkLift now reliably restores all saved view settings for tabs within each workspace, improving workflow consistency for power users.
Rounding out the release are subtle refinements that boost overall visibility and ease of use. The update also features several targeted fixes for the Tags in Sidebar feature, originally introduced in the previous version, improving tag management and organization for users who rely on tagging to organize their files.
