Drawing software Pinta 3.0 launches with GTK4 port, new effects, and Apple Silicon support

Pinta, the free and open-source image drawing and editing software, has launched its version 3.0, introducing a variety of enhancements and bug fixes. This major update brings a port to GTK4 and libadwaita, alongside an upgraded minimum .NET version requirement to 8.0. Notably, it now includes an ARM64 installer for macOS, catering to Apple Silicon users.

The update restores support for add-ins, previously disabled in version 2.0, and introduces a preference for toggling between dark and light color schemes. A revamped color picker dialog and a customizable canvas grid replace the old pixel grid. Users can now select tile types and edge behaviors in the tile reflection effect.

New effects added in this release include “Dithering,” “Voronoi Diagram,” “Feather Object,” “Align Object,” and “Outline Object,” along with “Vignette” and “Dents” effects from Paint.NET 3.36. Pinta 3.0 also supports exporting to .ppm files and introduces a nearest-neighbor resampling mode for image resizing.

Additional features include customizable gradients in fractal and clouds effects, a new Offset Selection option, and WebP image support for Windows builds. The Windows installer is now signed, improving security. Zooming behavior with trackpads has been enhanced, including pinch-to-zoom support, and brush size and line width settings can now be adjusted using [ and ] shortcuts. The release also includes a redesigned website alongside various other changes and bug fixes.
