DietPi 9.12 adds support for fish shell, Amiberry v7, Amiberry-Lite and other enhancements

DietPi has released version 9.12, bringing several updates and new features to this minimal Debian-based Linux distribution for single-board computers. Notably, this version introduces official support for the fish shell, offering an alternative to more traditional shells like Bash and Zsh. In a change to its scripts, DietPi now uses sensible-editor instead of nano for command-line text editing.

The update also adds support for writing backups to an SSHFS, and updates DietPi packages to Amiberry v7. For ARM and RISC-V SBCs slower than Raspberry Pi 4, Amiberry-Lite is now available as a dedicated software option. New hardware support includes Orange Pi boards and ARMv8 and x86_64 Bookworm/Trixie systems, with the latest Spotifyd release.

Due to the removal of legacy GPIO API support in modern Raspberry Pi kernels, python3-rpi-lgpio is now installed to provide compatibility with the lgpio library. Additionally, instances installed via dietpi-software will listen on TCP port 8489 for HTTPS requests, aligning with Pi-hole v6 core features. The release also addresses several bug fixes.
