UBports has announced the release of version 20.04 OTA-8 Focal of Ubuntu Touch, an Ubuntu-based mobile operating system that emphasizes privacy and freedom. This release is an unscheduled OTA security fix for Ubuntu Touch 20.04 and is available for a variety of devices.

Key updates in this release include the reintroduction of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support for Volla Phone X23 and Volla Phone 22 running the Halium 12 port, with plans to expand support to more devices in the future. Users can now also remove pictures from contact entries and connect to WPA3-protected Wi-Fi networks.

In addition to these new features, the release includes general bug fixes and security updates from both upstream Ubuntu and UBports. Existing users on the stable channel will receive the OTA-8 upgrade through the system settings' updates screen, with the update being randomly allocated to devices starting today.
