Pocket Casts makes listening to podcasts easier than ever with free web and desktop access

Podcast Casts, a well-regarded podcast application, has announced that its web player is now accessible to all users without the need for a subscription. Previously, Pocket Casts operated as a freemium service available across various platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. With this update, users can now enjoy the full web experience for free.

In its announcement, Pocket Casts emphasized the importance of keeping podcasting open and accessible, stating, “The future of podcasting shouldn’t be locked behind walled gardens. It should be free, open, and available to everyone—on any device, without restrictions.” Starting today, users can stream any podcast episode directly from the web player without requiring an account or subscription — simply visit the site and hit play.

For those seeking more personalized features, creating a free account allows for benefits such as syncing playback progress across devices, managing podcast queues, and saving subscriptions and preferences. This also applies to the desktop apps, which were paid-only until now. Additionally, the Pocket Casts Plus subscription offers exclusive features like smart shuffle, exclusive content, support for Apple Watch and Wear OS, and 20 GB of cloud storage for an enhanced experience.

If you are going to spend money for a podcast player on pc and phone this is the one you should purchase 5/5. Even the free edition is great if you don't need device sync and the other bells and whistles. If you do go free though then they are options like Grover that are also great without those features.
