Immich 1.130 enhanced photo & video management with faster scans and smarter search

Immich, a self-hosted photo and video management software, has launched version 1.130, introducing a range of new features and improvements. Users of the mobile app can now access a folder view directly from the Library page under quick links. On the web platform, the naming interface has been revamped for easier and quicker editing of a person’s name, eliminating the need for multiple clicks.

Significant performance enhancements have been made, particularly in the external library scan code, which has been entirely rewritten. By optimizing SQL logic, reducing file system calls, and batching asset imports, users can expect a performance boost of 10x to 100x when scanning external libraries. The timeline feature has also been virtually rewritten to enhance speed and reduce memory usage, improving the responsiveness of scrolling, scrubbing, and window resizing.

Machine learning capabilities have been expanded to support AMD GPUs and Rockchip NPUs, accelerating Smart Search and Face Detection tasks. The search functionality now retains the last selected mode from context, file name, and description, streamlining user experience. Additionally, a new button in the mobile app allows users to quickly locate a photo on the timeline from any detail viewer.

With smarter search models and various other enhancements and bug fixes, Immich 1.130 aims to deliver a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

Immich looks good on paper, but unfortunately it's essentially for Linux only. This is verbatim from his website: "OS: Recommended Linux or *nix operating system (Ubuntu, Debian, etc). Non-Linux OSes tend to provide a poor Docker experience and are strongly discouraged. Our ability to assist with setup or troubleshooting on non-Linux OSes will be severely reduced"
