Google is expanding AI Overviews and introducing an experimental AI Mode to search results
Google has unveiled an update to its search engine, incorporating several new AI-powered features. Central to this update is the introduction of Gemini 2.0 for AI Overviews in the U.S., designed to tackle complex queries in areas such as coding, advanced math, and multimodal inquiries. This enhancement promises quicker and more precise responses, with AI Overviews appearing more frequently for these challenging questions, and doesn't require signing in to get access anymore.
Additionally, Google has introduced an experimental feature in Labs called AI Mode. This mode extends the capabilities of AI Overviews, enabling advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal functionalities. Users can pose complex questions and receive AI-driven responses, with options for follow-up queries and relevant web links. AI Mode is particularly advantageous for in-depth exploration, comparisons, and reasoning tasks, allowing users to delve into nuanced topics that previously required multiple searches.
This integration of advanced model capabilities with Google’s information systems is seamlessly built into Google Search. Google One AI Premium subscribers will be the first to receive invitations to test this new AI Mode experiment in Labs.
