FerretDB 2.0 released as an open-source MongoDB alternative with PostgreSQL & DocumentDB

FerretDB has announced the general availability of its 2.0 version, positioning itself as a truly open-source alternative to MongoDB. Built on PostgreSQL, FerretDB 2.x leverages Microsoft's newly released open-source DocumentDB PostgreSQL extension to enhance database performance significantly.

While FerretDB 1.x remains available for legacy purposes, the 2.0 release shifts the focus entirely to PostgreSQL with DocumentDB as the backend. This transition allows FerretDB to maintain open-source integrity while offering enterprise-grade performance. Notable features in FerretDB 2.0 include enhanced MongoDB compatibility for easy application migration, vector search support for AI-driven tasks, and replication support for high availability.

To cater to large-scale deployments, FerretDB now provides enterprise-grade subscriptions and consulting services, which encompass dedicated support, performance tuning, and migration assistance. Additionally, FerretDB introduces FerretDB Cloud, a fully managed database-as-a-service offering.

With these advancements, FerretDB 2.0 enables organizations to run MongoDB workloads at scale without concerns about proprietary licensing, vendor lock-in, or platform restrictions.
