Amazon Prime Video tests AI-powered dubbing to enhance access to foreign-language content

Amazon Prime Video is experimenting with an AI-powered dubbing program, aiming to make foreign-language movies and shows more accessible without relying solely on subtitles. This initiative is currently available for 12 licensed titles, including El Cid: La Leyenda, Mi Mamá Lora, and Long Lost. These titles are now available in both English and Latin American Spanish.

The AI dubbing program is being implemented only for titles lacking existing dubbing support. The process uses a hybrid approach, combining AI with human expertise to ensure high-quality and natural-sounding voiceovers. Language professionals collaborate with AI tools to refine the dubbed audio, ensuring accuracy and maintaining content authenticity.

Amazon already released a step-by-step AI dubbing tutorial last year, showing users how to use auto-dubbing with Amazon Translate, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon Polly. Now, this latest advancement in its dubbing technology is the next step in the company’s efforts to reach a wider audience, similar to how YouTube has been implementing AI-driven dubbing in some of its videos for a while now.
