Visual Studio Code 1.97 now lets GitHub Copilot predict the next edit you might make

Microsoft has rolled out version 1.97 of Visual Studio Code, bringing several new features and enhancements to the popular code editor. A notable addition is the preview feature, Next Edit Suggestions, where GitHub Copilot predicts the next edit a developer might make. Users can now reposition the Command Palette and Quick Inputs, enhancing customization.

The update introduces auto acceptance of Copilot suggestions after a configurable timeout, improving workflow efficiency. Security is bolstered with the introduction of extension publisher trust, ensuring a secure development environment. Compound logs allow developers to aggregate multiple logs into a single view, and the Output panel now supports content filtering.

Developers can access rich Git blame information with the option to open files directly on GitHub. Debugging has been enhanced with the ability to filter and search specific values in debug variables, and inline values for code cell variables in notebooks are now visible. Python developers benefit from a no-config debug feature, enabling quick debugging of scripts or modules without setup.

Additionally, the release includes various improvements and bug fixes, particularly in areas such as GitHub Copilot, accessibility, source control, and the integrated terminal, enhancing the versatility and user experience of the software.
