Open source educational software GCompris releases version 25.0 with 5 new activities

GCompris, an educational software suite designed for children, has launched its version 25.0, now based on Qt 6. This update introduces a total of 195 activities, including five new additions aimed at enhancing learning experiences. The “Sketch” activity enables children to draw freely with a variety of tools, fostering creativity. “Calculate with ten's complement” extends existing activities by helping children swap numbers for easier sum computations. The new “Vertical addition” and “Vertical subtraction” activities focus on solving arithmetic problems, and the “Vertical subtraction (compensation)” activity offers methods for borrowing by compensation.

Version 25.0 also includes bug fixes and graphical improvements across multiple activities. A significant portion of the activity descriptions has been rewritten with input from educators to improve clarity. Language switching in the menu now applies changes instantly, without needing to restart the application. On Windows, the graphical renderer defaults to direct3d11. Additionally, this update introduces support for the Sanskrit language, expanding the software's accessibility.
