Microsoft unveils Muse, a new gaming tech for generative gameplay models

Microsoft, in partnership with its internal game studio Ninja Theory, has introduced a generative AI model called Muse. This model is crafted to assist in game design and ideation by using Microsoft's World and Human Action Model (WHAM). Muse can create game visuals and controller actions, having been trained with data from Ninja Theory's game Bleeding Edge, emphasizing ethical data collection.

Muse can generate complex gameplay sequences from just 10 initial frames and controller actions to create consistent and diverse gameplay rendered by AI, and Microsoft has released the model's weights and sample data for community engagement through a WHAM Demonstrator in Hugging Face.

Muse operates in a "world model mode" where it predicts the game's evolution based on an initial prompt, measuring accuracy by comparing generated sequences to real gameplay. Microsoft's aim with Muse is to support game designers in creating and refining gameplay experiences, with Xbox teams already exploring AI-driven game design applications.

The Xbox App integrates your gaming experience across Xbox One and Windows 10 devices, including iOS and Android. It allows users to connect with the Xbox Live community, monitor friends' gaming activities, share game clips and screenshots, and track achievements. Despite its low rating, it serves as a central hub for Xbox gamers, with alternatives like Google Play Games, Game Center, and PS4 Remote Play.

And, like all Microsoft products, I'm sure it is refined and polished, stable, and won't be dropped next month.
