Tails 7.3.1 delivers urgent security fix, updated Tor Browser, Tor client, and Thunderbird

Tails 7.3.1 is now available as the latest update of this portable operating system designed to protect users from surveillance and censorship. The release of version 7.3.1, rather than the planned 7.3, was prompted by the discovery of a security vulnerability in a software library during final preparations. To ensure user safety, the Tails team halted the 7.3 release and restarted the process, incorporating the necessary security fix in 7.3.1.

Alongside the security update, Tails 7.3.1 delivers refreshed components. Notably, it includes Tor Browser 15.0.3, the Tor client 0.4.8.21, and Thunderbird 140.5.0. These software updates enhance both security and day-to-day usability for privacy-conscious users.

For those already using Tails 7.0 or later, automatic upgrades to 7.3.1 are available. If automatic upgrades cannot be performed, or if Tails does not start following an upgrade, users are encouraged to attempt a manual upgrade to ensure access to the latest security improvements.
