PeerTube v8 launches with redesigned video player, collaborative channel management & more
PeerTube v8 marks the latest major version of the decentralized, federated video hosting platform based on the ActivityPub protocol. This release delivers substantial enhancements for both users and administrators.
A central highlight is the introduction of the new Lucide video player theme. This redesigned interface features finer icons, a less intrusive visual style, and a reworked volume button that conceals the volume state by default. Peer-to-peer network information is no longer on display by default but can now be accessed in the “Stats for nerds” menu via right-click. Users who prefer the previous design can still access the old theme.
Building on UI advancements, PeerTube v8 brings collaborative management to channels. Platform members may now be designated as editors, empowering them to publish content, update or delete videos, manage playlists and comments, adjust synchronizations, and update channel information.
These changes are complemented by improvements to workflow and interface elements. Storyboards can be generated remotely through an external runner, and administrators are now able to manually retry failed imports and check import status within the video management interface. The notification system appearance has also been refreshed to closely match the overall PeerTube theme.
