PeaZip 10.8 expands archive preview features, boosts RAR & TAR archive handling, and more

PeaZip 10.8 arrives as the latest release of the cross-platform file manager and archive utility. This update brings a major overhaul to the archive preview function, granting users the ability to preview files from a wider set of archive formats. Previewing can now be accomplished using external file tools or through the integrated image viewer, broadening the ways users interact with archived content.

Following these enhancements, PeaZip 10.8 also introduces header “magic bytes” analysis when opening archives. This feature gathers technical information from each archive, prominently displaying these details, along with standard archive statistics, in the application’s title bar. These additions streamline diagnostics and help users confirm file types at a glance.

The release also includes improvements in handling RAR and TAR archives, intended to deliver better performance and compatibility. Complementing these enhancements, PeaZip 10.8 updates its backend components to Pea 1.28 and Brotli 1.2.0, which may result in improved speed and compressed file support.

For developers, the source code now targets Lazarus 4.x for compilation while retaining compatibility with Lazarus 3.x and 2.x, supporting a smooth experience across different build environments.
