Kdenlive 25.12.0 adds flexible docking system, new layouts, and menu overhaul
Kdenlive 25.12.0 has been released with a redesigned docking system that allows widgets to be grouped, shown, or hidden more flexibly. Layouts are now saved as separate files and also embedded in project files, so reopening a project restores the same workspace. Existing custom layouts are not compatible with this system and must be recreated.
The update adds a new welcome screen with quick shortcuts, alongside a vertical layout and optional safe areas aimed at editing 9:16 video. Menus were restructured to follow common professional editing conventions, with file related actions such as render and project settings moved into the File menu.
Additional changes include improved UI localization support, a revamped audio monitor with a minimap for zooming into audio sections, and the renaming of timeline guides to markers. Markers can now have durations and be dragged directly from the markers list into the timeline. The release also fixes more than 15 crashes and resolves issues such as Windows render failures caused by special characters in user names and project corruption when copying content between projects.
