Anthropic acquires Bun to accelerate its development and integration into Claude Code
Anthropic has announced its acquisition of Bun, an all-in-one toolkit for JavaScript, TypeScript, and JSX that integrates a runtime, package manager, bundler, and test runner. The company plans to use Bun as core infrastructure for its Claude Code product, the Claude Agent SDK, and other future AI-based coding tools.
As a result, users of Claude Code can expect enhanced performance, greater stability, and new capabilities as Bun is integrated more deeply. This move reflects Bun's position as a widely adopted solution in the JavaScript ecosystem, now collecting more than 7 million downloads monthly, boasting over 82,000 GitHub stars, and being used by companies such as Midjourney and Lovable to boost development productivity.
Addressing potential community concerns, Bun will remain open-source under the MIT license, and will continue to be actively developed by its existing team. Development will still be conducted publicly on GitHub. Bun's roadmap also continues unchanged, focusing on high-performance JavaScript tooling, improved Node.js compatibility, and aiming to become the primary server-side JavaScript runtime.
Following the acquisition, Bun is set to deliver updates more rapidly and will be increasingly shaped by closely following advancements in AI-powered coding tools.
