Wine 10.18 brings WoW64 mode improvements, sync barriers API, and WinRT exception support

Wine 10.18 is now available, further strengthening its role as a key compatibility layer for running Windows applications on Linux, macOS, and BSD. This release brings substantial technical improvements for users operating across diverse platforms.

The update introduces a new OpenGL memory mapping feature using Vulkan when running in WoW64 mode, enhancing graphics handling and performance for applications relying on 32-bit and 64-bit interoperability. Alongside this, users benefit from the addition of a synchronization barriers API and support for WinRT exceptions. These changes extend core system behavior, allowing broader compatibility and improved multithreading capabilities, particularly for modern Windows Runtime (WinRT) applications.

Following these enhancements, Wine 10.18 adds SCSI pass-through support in WoW64 mode. This enables direct communication with SCSI peripherals, expanding hardware access options for advanced users and specialized software running under compatibility layers.

Furthermore, this release addresses 30 bugs affecting a range of prominent applications and games. Titles such as Yukon Trail, Sid Meier’s Pirates!, Jolly Rover, and The Witcher 2, as well as software like Autodesk Fusion and Keepass 2, have received fixes to improve overall compatibility and stability.
