Shotcut 25.10 brings HTML video rendering, TTS for notes & subtitles, and screen recording
Shotcut version 25.10 delivers several major workflow and content creation features for open-source video editors. Leading the release is the new Image/Video from HTML option, enabling users to generate images and video directly from HTML code. This capability uses Google Chrome or Chromium as the rendering engine and operates at up to 15 frames per second to balance performance.
For accessibility and narration use cases, the update introduces text-to-speech for notes and subtitles, powered by the Kokorodoki engine and Kokoro AI model. Following these advancements, Shotcut 25.10 implements cross-platform screen snapshot and recording tools. Windows users can use it through Microsoft's snipping tool, macOS users can rely on Apple’s screenshot utility, and Linux users can use integrated FFmpeg for X11 or, on Wayland, GNOME Shell, KDE Spectacle, or OBS Studio. However, this recording feature is currently unavailable for Flatpak-installed versions on Linux.
Building on visual editing features, Shotcut adds a text typewriter filter and generator, helping creators add animated text that resembles real-time typing. For improved media management, “Open With” and “Reload” options in the Properties menu allow users to edit files externally and refresh them in Shotcut without re-importing. The release also includes various other enhancements and bug fixes.
