Android users can finally share files with iPhone through AirDrop interoperability
In an unexpected move, Google has announced that Android users can now send and receive files natively with iPhone, iPad, and macOS devices through Quick Share, which now works with Apple’s AirDrop. Google also highlights that it developed the interoperability independently, without relying on any Apple APIs or cooperation.
It is also worth mentioning that the feature is currently limited to the Pixel 10 lineup, though a spokesperson confirmed that Google plans to expand it to more Android devices. To transfer files, both devices must set their visibility to “anyone for 10 minutes.” Apple users enable this through AirDrop preferences, while Pixel 10 owners use Quick Share’s receive mode or make their device discoverable. Transfers work in both directions, allowing users to move files between platforms with minimal friction.
The implementation has been reviewed internally by Google’s privacy and security teams and externally by independent security experts, anticipating potential objections from Apple regarding interoperability. This move adds to a growing trend of features once exclusive to Apple being opened to cross platform use, including the addition of RCS message support in iOS.

This is will be just like the Beeper situation
Felt like great news until I read the "it developed the interoperability independently, without relying on any Apple APIs or cooperation" part. I mean, kudos to the team at Google, this is great work, hats off to you, but you know Apple will just patch this in 3 days after Google release this feature & instantly render this whole effort moot.
And like another commenter mentioned, Google should've already known this very well; They themselves refused to release YouTube & other apps for Windows Phone, and when Microsoft made a YouTube client for Windows Phone themselves, Google then shut it down. What goes around comes around I guess.
Developed without asking Apple, does it mean it'll break on the next iOS update? Or even Apple suing for reverse-engineering?
Come on Google, you and Apple are in this mobile OS game since nearly twenty years, you must know how things work. You must at least remember Beeper Mini, it was only 2 years ago.
How dare you still trying to make Apple compatible with the outer world?
Don’t get me started on the whole Windows Phone vs Google situation, with Microsoft making their own YouTube client only for Google to take it down a couple of days later 🙄
