Tor Browser 15.0 introduces vertical tabs and enhanced security, based on Firefox 140 ESR

The Tor Project has released Tor Browser 15.0, marking a substantial update to their privacy-focused web browser for accessing the Tor network. This release is the first stable version based on Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) 140 and brings with it a full year's worth of upstream improvements from Mozilla's Firefox project.

Desktop users will see a number of interface enhancements. This version introduces vertical tabs, supporting workspaces where users can manage groups of tabs more flexibly. Bookmarks are now accessible directly from the sidebar, and users can organize tabs using the new tab groups feature. Alongside these changes, the address bar has also been refreshed for a cleaner browsing experience.

On Android, Tor Browser 15.0 adds a screen lock function that bolsters session privacy. This addition ensures sessions are protected from unauthorized access when a device is unattended.

To reduce potential vulnerabilities, WebAssembly is now disabled in the Safer and Safest security levels through NoScript. Until now, this control used a global browser setting, but with Mozilla's PDF reader partly migrating to WebAssembly, oversight has moved to NoScript, which already manages other security options within Tor Browser.

almost every piece of news from open-source and anti-surveillance app/website here restores my faith in humanity just a little. especially after reading 999 updates from other companies about adding another age-verification or hallucinating LLM. guys, internet and tech are not dead yet.
